There are simple steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Choose a clean, dry surface to work on. Set out all the tools that you'll need. Then, locate the battery's hole, and then open it with an open-ended flathead, coin, or other similar tool. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting it up on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Be sure to use rubber gloves to avoid damaging the clips or electronic contact surfaces.

Then slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop section until it loosens and then slides off. Use the blade of a screwdriver or a prybar tool into this slot, and then gently pull the rear of the fob. Once the fob is opened, locate the CR2032 3V battery and take it off. Replace the battery in its spot and snap the fob back together.

Note: Older Volvos have a different battery that is called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of millimeters thinner than a CR2032 battery, which means you'll need to be careful with the placement of the replacement.
